LIBBY LEE SPURGEON
1918 - 1997

Libby Lee Vobornik Spurgeon, Oklahoma City, passed away peacefully to be with her Lord while watching her favorite show MASH on Wednesday, October 15, 1997, after grieving for her sister and best friend, Margaret, who passed away August 21.
Libby was born January 5, 1918 to Henry and Mary Pantlik Vobornik in Prague, Oklahoma.
She married and divorced Lehman Liles and Gene Spurgeon.
She worked as a server in several cafeterias and restaurants.
She was a member of Pennsylvania Ave. Methodist Church and a 50 year member of Z.C.B.J. Lodge 46 of Prague.
Libby never met a stranger. With a big smile, she introduced herself to everyone she met. She was quick witted, a great speller, could do math in her head faster than on paper, and had the prettiest handwriting you ever saw. She loved riding the bus, eating at Grandy's, going to Shepherd Mall, collecting stuffed animals, making funny faces, lifesavers, and talking for hours on the phone.
Libby's other favorite TV shows were Lawrence Welk, Wheel of Fortune, and her TV dial never left Channel 5. She knew every weatherman and newsman on Channel 5 by their first names.
Her biggest joy were her great nieces and nephews. She loved laughing and singing with them on the phone especially her little favorite Jacey.
Libby was a joy in the hospital these last 3 weeks. She had all the nurses singing, laughing, and learning Czech words. She was a very sharing person who loved children. She would buy a dozen lipsticks or gloves and give them to her relatives and friends.
She spoke Bohemian {Czech} and tried to teach everyone she met.
Living alone all her life, she scotch taped her walls with newspaper clippings and pictures of friends and relatives, sort of a gigantic scrapbook, this way she really was not alone.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant sister, Virginia; brother, Frederick; and favorite sister, Margaret Jezek.
Libby is survived by her caring niece who was born on her birthday, Joanie and husband, Tom Jedlicka of Oklahoma City; niece, Marjorie VanDyke of Denver, North Carolina; great nephews, Endo Jezek, Jyle, Jerek, and Jaron Jedlicka, great nieces, Jada and especially her favorite, Jacey Jedlicka all of Oklahoma City; three sisters, Helen Dostal and Rose Sefcik of Prague; and Clara Pospisil of Shawnee; and many more nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside open casket service will be held Saturday, October 18, 1997, at 2:00 at the Czech National Cemetery in Prague.
