ELMER LEE MARTIN
1930 - 1993
Elmer Lee Martin died suddenly at his home June 13, 1993 in Bethany, Oklahoma.
He was born December 25, 1930 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Andrew Martin and Leila Burl Coleman of Oklahoma City.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, of 37 years; his daughter, Barbara Ann Richart and husband, Don and their daughter, Kattlyn Ryan of Oklahoma City; his son, Scott Allan Martin and wife, Zonda and their daughters, Rachel Elizabeth, Emily Ruth, and son, Zachary Scott of Oklahoma City; his sister, Johnnie Coats of Oklahoma City; his brother, Tommy and wife, Frankie of Wayne, Oklahoma; and his stepfather, John Coleman of Oklahoma City.
Elmer began work with the Oklahoma Highway Transportation Department as a Professional Engineer in Highway Design Division. He was promoted to various positions over the next 28 years and retired as Assistant Division Engineer in the Local Government Coordination Division. A professional Registered Engineer and Associate Member of the ACCO, Elmer attended both Oklahoma University and Oklahoma State University. After his retirement, he founded Martin Engineering Company in February 1988 with partners, John Onderek {also brother-in-law} and long-time friend, Pete E. Colwell. Martin Engineering specialized in county roads and bridges.
In addition to his dedication to his family, he was active in his community for many years, coaching the women's Oklahoma City Jazz Softball Team. Elmer was also a veteran of the Korean Conflict. Because of his strength and common sense approach, his family was able to do things they could not have done alone.
He lived his life the way all mankind should, honestly, thoughtfully and good. He gave to others of himself, something that can never be replaced. He leaves an immeasurable void for both family and friends. Rest in peace, we love you.
Services will be held Wednesday, June 16, 1993, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.
Interment will be at Czech National Cemetery in Prague, Oklahoma at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice or the Arthiritis Foundation.
