Czech National Cemetery is located one mile south and one mile east of Prague. On October 18, 1897, two acres of land were purchased from Wesley Klabzuba to establish the original cemetery. As more land was needed, Jim and Tena Rubac donated ten additional acres of land on July 31, 1963.The first burial occurred on July 5, 1899 with the interment of Charlie Klabzuba. Since that time, 416 persons have been buried there. This number included 36 veterans of world wars. The focal point of this cemetery, a large dough boy monument, is located in the center of the cemetery. This monument was donated by the parents of Edward Walla, who lost his life on October 18, 1918, in France during World War I.Later, the American Legion Post chose the name, Edward Walla Post No. 11, as their official name. Each Memorial Day, the Post commemorates the day at each of the local cemeteries. Individual flags are placed at each veteran's graves, as well as floral offerings being placed abundantly on most all graves.Jerry Salda has been president of the Czech Cemetery Association for the past ten years and is also the caretaker.**Currently, Charles Bohuslavicky is the caretaker of the cemetery.**
