Opal Mae Brown Edmondson

edmondson-o-m

April 1, 1927 ~ November 8, 2022

Our loving mother and grandmother, Opal Mae Edmondson was carried away by angels to her heavenly home on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at the age of 95 while surrounded by her loving family. A trip she had been looking forward to for so long. Funeral services have been entrusted to the care of Dighton-Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater.

Opal was born April 1, 1927 in Carney, Oklahoma to Charles Wesley Brown and Esther Missouri (Staton) Brown. She attended the Lincoln Grade School and at the age of 5 her family moved to Stillwater where she helped them run a Grade A Dairy.

At the young age of 16 she married Murle Warren Edmondson on July 10, 1943 in Stillwater. They enjoyed 66 wonderful years together until Murle passed in January of 2010.

Opal had a love for cooking and throughout her life, owned restaurants and cooked in sororities and fraternities. She became the head cook at the Pi Beta Phi house and later cooked for the golf boys which is where her cooking career ended after breaking her leg. Opal loved spending time in the kitchen preparing delicious meals for her family and was famous for her rolls, cinnamon rolls, and pumpkin pies. She was nicknamed "Grandma Cinnamon Roll" by one of her great grandsons because she would often bake pans of cinnamon rolls and send you home with one if you stopped by.

After her cooking career ended, Opal became a caregiver for the elderly. She enjoyed many hobbies including camping, crocheting, mushroom hunting, fishing and having big fish fries with family and friends.

Survivors include her two daughters, Judy Doty of Stillwater, and Sandi Grider and husband Wayne of Perkins; one son, Gary Edmondson of Stillwater; grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

A Homegoing service for Opal will be held on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at 2PM at Dighton-Marler Funeral, Stillwater with Johnny Cawfield officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Carney Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Cory Edmondson, Ethan Edmondson, Scott Doty, Warren Edmondson, Treyson Germany, Phillip Moffat, and Jeremy Hamen. Honorary pallbearers will be Brent Grider, Mike Edmondson, and Dillan Grider.

Visitation will be 9AM to 8PM Monday, November 14, 2022 at the funeral home with family greeting guests from 6PM to 8PM.
