Dorothy Jean Cheatwood Kershaw was born on November 13, 1932, in Riverside, California, and departed this life on Thursday, March 2, 2017, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, at the age of 84.
Jean, the daughter of Ervin and Gladys (Tubbs) Kelting, was a resident of Prague. Jean married Joe Cheatwood on January 8, 1951. After Joe’s passing, Jean married David Kershaw on August 31, 1995. She was a self-taught homemaker and was involved in many volunteer efforts. She was truly cared about people and enjoyed helping others. Jean loved antiques; she loved selling and buying at flea markets. She was a cooking instructor of commodities; she was also an author writing many short stories and poems. Jean was a pioneer, being an early female minister. She was a member and active participant in Rebecca’s lodge. Jean was a passionate believer, follower and teacher of the Lord’s Word, and will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
Jean's parents, husbands and two sons Tommy Lee and Raymond Lynn preceded her in death.
Survivors include her sons, Danny and Vikki Cheatwood, of Tecumseh, Mike Cheatwood, of Prague, Mark and Cindy Cheatwood, of Shawnee, Kevin Kershaw, of Shawnee, Larry and Kathy Kingsley, of Shawnee; daughters, Debbie Lee, of Tecumseh, Tom and Christina Winters, of Shawnee, Lorrie and Eldon Brittain, of Holdenville, Tracy South, of Shawnee and Nancy and Larry Lucas of Shawnee; sisters, Betty McFarland of Shelton, WA, Irva Keith of Series, CA and Cheryl Kelting of CA; 20 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren and special friends, Marquita Kilgore and Juanita Haskell.
Jean’s family will receive friends on Sunday, March 5, 2017 from 3:00-5:00 PM at Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 6, 2017 at 2:00 PM, at Calvary Way Church in Prague with Rev Starland Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Arlington Cemetery. Jean's family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Colonial Estates Nursing Home and Heartland Hospice for their care and love that they gave Jean.
