Oscar C Archer 64 of Port St. Lucie, Florida, passed away February
25, 2011 at Treasure Coast Hospice in Stuart. Florida after a brief
illness.
Oscar was born on August 4, 1946 to Claude and Lillian Archer. The
family moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma in 1954 where attended school
and graduated in 1965.
Oscar enlisted in the United States Army in 1966, and served three
tours of duty in Viet Nam. 1968-1973. After boot camp he was sent to
Officer Candidate school at Fort Sill and became an Artillery
Officer Forward Observer 2nd Lieutenant and shipped directly to Viet
Nam for his Paratrooper training, Ranger school and Green Beret
training, then back to Viet Nam where he served two tours as a
Special Forces Green Beret. He completed his career as a decorated
Special Forces Captain in 1974, and continued to serve in the Army
National Guard for the next 12 years.
Oscar returned to Oklahoma in 1974 and earned degrees in both
business administration and law enforcement from the University of
Oklahoma, later embarking on a distinguished 30 year career with the
Department of Defense as a Contract Administrator in the guided
missile manufacturing sector until his retirement on January 1,
2010.
Oscar is survived by his wife of 30 years, Patricia Stewart Archer
of the home, sons; Chet Wallis & Gayla of Talihina, Michael Archer
of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Beau Archer of Tacoma Park, Maryland,
daughter; Michelle Archer of Ponca City, Oklahoma. Grandchildren,
Shaun Wallis and Charli of Talihina, Jennifer Kennedy & Ryan of
Talihina, Telia Archer of Ponca City, Great Grandchildren; Ryder
Wallis and Lane Kennedy both of Talihina. Brothers; Fred Archer and
Judy of Ponca City, Robert Archer and Dawn of Coppell, Texas,
Russell Archer and Lynne of The Woodlands, Texas.
He was preceded in
death by his parents, Claude & Lillian Archer.
Pallbearers will be Shaun Wallis, Ryan Kennedy, Daniel Craig,
Sterling Zearley, Eugene Pearce and Jerry Pearce.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 4, 2011 at the
First Baptist Church in Talihina, Oklahoma with Rev. Carrol
Fitzgerald officiating.
Interment will follow at the Whitesboro
Cemetery under the direction of Talihina Funeral Home.
