Cpl Akins was the Crew Chief aboard a CH-46D (Sea Knight) on a Rescue & Recovery
mission east of Khe Sanh on Jun 2, 1969. The Helo was hovering, making an
attempt to medivac wounded US Marines when hit with Small Arms/Automatic
Weapons. The Helo then exploded & burned. Donald was seriously
wounded & Medivaced to a US Navy Hospital Ship where he died on June 9, 1969
