Olen Porter Barnes, 78, of Poteau died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, in Poteau. He was born Dec. 26, 1923, in Panama. He worked as an auto body repairman for both the Chevrolet and Ford companies in Poteau and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Poteau.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Trinity Baptist Church in Poteau with burial at Shady Point Cemetery under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
He is survived by his wife, Fern; a son, Rudy of Octavia; a daughter, Debbie Wood of Poteau; a brother, Robert; two sisters, Margie Wiles and Lois Smith; a brother-in-law, Lorne Russell; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Fayette Billy, Todd Peters, Terry Gray, Bill Pierce, Jimmy Burden and Hank Remy.
Memorial contributions may be made to Professional Home Hospice in Poteau.

Mr. Barnes was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and a retired auto body repairman, working for Chevrolet and Ford companies in Poteau. He was preceded in death by his parents John R. & Virgle Barnes. A Brother Carl Barnes and a sister Betty Russell.
Survivors include his wife Fern of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Rudy and Yvonne Barnes of Octavia; one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Daryl Wood of Poteau; five grandchildren, Larry, Eric, and Andrew Barnes and Brandon Wood and wife Angela and Cory Wood; two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Makinzie Wood; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Lorene Barnes; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Margie Wiles, Lois and Howard Smith and Lorne Russell; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and other loved ones; and a host of beloved friends.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5 at Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. Leroy Billy officiating. Burial will follow in Shady Point Cemetery under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
