Jan Rose (Brock) Woodson

Mercer-Adams Funeral Service
Bethany, OK
(permission granted)

Jan Rose Woodson was born July 14, 1933 in Kettle Island, Kentucky and joined her Heavenly Father on January 26, 2021 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

She was born in a log cabin built by her father on a mountainside in Southeastern Kentucky. There was no electricity and no running water! Much of Jan's indomitable spirit, grit, and independence surely were forged during her early years.

Jan attended Bell County schools through high school and graduated from Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky. She always dreamed of broadening her horizons and soon was teaching school in Indiana and there she met her husband and love of her life, Dr. Dan Woodson. They wed on November 26, 1959.

During those early years, Jan and Dan lived in several states and eventually settled in Dan's home state of Oklahoma, where they established roots. They had three sons, Thomas, Mark, and Michael and started to build a life of faith in the Lord that ultimately would have a profound impact on their boys and subsequently their grandchildren.

Never one to sit still, Jan was always on the move. She was a wonderful mother and wife and an exquisite cook. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, PTA President, Dan's bookkeeper, antique trader, church committee member and Real Estate Owner / Manager. She enjoyed playing tennis, gardening, cooking for family on Sunday afternoons, frequenting restaurants with the Red Hat Ladies, and absolutely loved watching and attending OU football games as a season ticket holder. But most of all, she loved the Lord and spent countless hours reading and studying God's word as evidenced by the tattered, heavily highlighted pages of her Bible. Every week she looked forward to Bible study and fellowship as a longtime member of Putnam City Baptist Church.

Later in life, Jan took on her most cherished title, Nanny. She dearly loved her grandchildren and tirelessly prayed for God's favor on their lives and that each would accept Christ as their personal Saviour and Lord as she had done so many years ago. Hers was assuredly a life well lived and we rejoice that her earthly suffering is over and all of us who trust in Christ will see her again!

She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Ora Brock; her husband, Dr. Dan Woodson; and one son, Dr. Thomas Woodson; her sister, Barbara Howard; and her brother, David Brock.

She is survived by 2 sons, Dr. Mark Woodson (Dr. Alexa Woodson), and Mike Woodson (Denise); daughter-in-law, Kimberly Banner-Woodson; 8 grandchildren, Ashton Gonzalez (Andres), Violet Wefer (Sid), Ivy Woodson-Holm (Cory), Ben Woodson (Meredith), Jake Woodson, Austin Woodson, Lilac Woodson, and Adria Woodson; 2 great grandchildren, Lukah John Woodson, and Evelyn Brynn Gonzalez; and 2 nieces, Renee Howard and Christy Brock.

Unfortunately, due to COVID, there will be no public viewing.

A private, family only service will be held with interment at Oakland Cemetery, Poteau, OK.

We wish to invite Jan's many friends to join us for services via live stream on Saturday, January 30, at 10am. You may watch from the link which will be posted on this obituary

In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local food bank as this was a ministry Jan dedicated several years to.
