Walter Newton Kellogg, 79, of Dallas, Texas and Cameron, passed away Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, in Tulsa. He was born Oct. 23, 1922 at Guthrie.
He was a veteran of World War II, served in the U.S. Army in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded two Purple Hearts for injuries sustained during battles near Liege, Belgium. He graduated University of Oklahoma where he was awarded a bachelor of science degree in petroleum engineering. He was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity and retired from Sun Oil Company after 30 years.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Kellogg Shaw.
Survivors include his wife Marguerite Kellogg of the home; one daughter, Mary Kellogg of Fort Worth, Texas; one son-in-law, Ed Shaw of Dallas; one grandson, David Shaw of Dallas; one brother, Vance Kellogg of Guthrie; two sisters, Ethel Lois Cornforth of Pomona, Calif. and Irma Berg of Guthrie; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and loved ones; and a host of beloved friends.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2 at Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau with the Rev. Barry Hayes officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery at Poteau under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
Pallbearers will be David Shaw, Ed Shaw, Randy Kellogg, Steve Berg, Bud French and F.L. Holton.
Honorary pallbearers will be Oran Ross and Buddy French.
Memorials may be made to the Karen Kellogg Shaw Memorial Scholarship through the CASC Development Foundation.
