Sam L. Harris, 87, of Poteau, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2002. He was born Jan. 26, 1915. He was a retired teacher and taught for 41 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, AARP, OREA and LeFlore County RE.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Zora McDaniel Harris; one sister, Florence Beasley; and three children, Sara, Saundra and Mark Harris.
Survivors include his wife Christine of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Sam and Nina Harris Jr. of Redondo Beach, Calif. and Hank and Barbara Harris of Poteau; one granddaughter, Sondra Harris; two grandsons, Matt Harris and Seva Harris; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and loved ones; and a host of beloved friends.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 27 at Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau with the Rev. Jim Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Poteau under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
Pallbearers will be Jim Horne, Charles Horne, Doug Walker, David Roberston, Doug Stone, Ron Barber and Barry Hughes.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Kidd, Lattie Hoyle, Sherman Floyd, Joe McDonald and Melvin Taylor.
