Opal Marie Self, 76, of Van Buren, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2002, in Fort Smith. She was born July 17, 1925.
Mrs. Self was a great mother, a beautician, a homemaker and a 1945 graduate of Poteau High School.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Self; her parents, Jessie and Jennie Bell (Sparks) Boone; and two sisters, Owsel Mattox and Bernice Philpot.
Survivors include her son, Bob Merchant of Van Buren; one granddaughter, Kelly Metts of Rowlett, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Colby Tyler Roberson and Noah Merchant Hinkle; one sister, MIldred Faulkenberry of Poteau; numerous other relatives and loved ones; and a host of beloved friends.
The family will visit with friends and relatives at Evans & Miller Funeral Home, 411 Dewey Ave., Poteau from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 20.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 21 at Oakland Cemetery Pavilion in Poteau with the Rev. Clyde Curry officiating. Burial is under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
