Elester Raybourn “Ray” Corn, 68 of Howe, passed away Oct. 15, 2008, in Poteau.
He was born March 10, 1940, to Callie Austin and Charles Robert Corn.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and the Oklahoma National Guard. He served in the Vietnam Conflict during his military service.
He was employed with the City of Howe where he oversaw an inmate crew. He had become a role model and mentor to many of the offenders who remain in contact with him. He was of the Protestant faith and an active member of the Democratic Party.
He was preceded in death by his mother and one son, Danny Barto.
He is survived by his wife, Katy, of the home; three daughters, Callie Place and son-in-law Mark of Wister, Roberta Dodd and son-in-law Jimmy of Howe and Lisa Thomas of Colorado; five sons, Senator Kenneth Corn of Poteau, Steven Herring of Spiro, Michael Lajennesse of San Diego, Calif. and Tony Corn and Andrew Corn, both of Albuquerque, N.M.; three sisters, Dixie Dahl of Fairfield, Calif. and Linda and Barbara, both of Calif.; his father of southern California; his parents-in-law, Clifton and Kathyrn Wann of Monroe; one aunt, Tinita Lung of Poteau; two uncles, Harold Lee of Duncan and Walter Lee of Oklahoma City; 12 grandchildren, Connor and Marlie Place, Lance, Steven and Shelby Couch, Jonathan and Naomi Corn, Vanessa and Mariah Corn, Jason Thomas and Kristi and Katarina Lajennesse; two great-grandchildren, Chance Couch and Eva Thomas; numerous other relatives, friends and loved ones.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Howe School Gymnasium. Burial will be in the Monroe Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Dodd, J.D. Ford, Jerry Dale Davidson, John Munday, Bobby Denton and Eugene Tucker.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Corn, Colton Wilson, Representative Neil Brannon, Representative Bud Smithson, Dylan Roberts and David Robison.
Family visitation will be Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Dowden Funeral Home, Heavener.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that memorial contributions be made to an account at Central National Bank that has been established to help with burial expenses.
Dowden Funeral Home, Heavener, is in charge of arrangements.
