Sonya "Short" was born to Euel G. and Daphne (Sides) Martin on March 26, 1948 in Poteau. She graduated from Red Oak High School in 1966. She attended Eastern Oklahoma State College and graduated with an Associates Degree of Business in 1968. She then moved to Oklahoma City to work at Stock Yard Bank as the Secretary for the Loan Officers. While in Oklahoma City she met Jack Norman. Short married Jack Lee Norman on March 22, 1980 in Red Oak, Oklahoma. They moved to Kansas where she worked at Prairie State Bank in Mulvane, Kansas and resided for many years. In 1993 they moved back to Red Oak and she worked at Latimer State Bank and finished her career by retiring from Latimer County Abstract Office with 20 years there. She enjoyed taking care of her beloved cats and dogs. Short enjoyed working crossword puzzles, reading James Patterson books and playing the piano. She was a member of Norris Free Will Baptist Church.
Sonya is survived by her sons; Brandon Norman and wife Bridgette of Red Oak, Brad Patterson and wife Allison of Red Oak; grandchildren: Zoe Patterson, Logan Patterson, Jake Patterson, Millie Patterson, Jaylee Norman, Jaxdon Norman of Red Oak; brother: Tommy Jo Martin and wife, Kathie of Red Oak; nephew: Tristan Martin and wife, Tracy of Red Oak; nieces: Brigitte Jo Martin, Dusti Ober and husband, Tommy of Red Oak; numerous other family members and friends.
Short was preceded in death by her parents, Euel G. and Daphne (Sides) Martin; Husband: Jack Lee Norman; granddaughter: Dai Dai Patterson.
Viewing will be at Jones-Harkins Funeral Home on Sunday, July 10, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with Family Visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
A graveside service will be held at North Rock Creek Cemetery, Red Oak, Oklahoma at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 11th, 2022 officiated by Rev. Kerry White. Arrangements are under the direction of Jones-Harkins Funeral Home, Wilburton, OK.
Pallbearers will be Russell Hiatt, Tristan Martin, Thomas Colbert, Tommy Ober, Tanner Crocket, Brian Crocket. Honorary Pallbearers will be her 1966 Red Oak High School Senior Classmates.
Short was very loved and will be missed by all.
