Services for Allen James McManus, 78, of Midwest City, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Midwest City, with graveside services at 3:30 p.m. at Mountain View Cemetery.
Allen McManus was born April 24, 1931, in Mountain View to Oble and Juanita McManus and died Wednesday.
He married Patsy Jo Eason in 1956 and was a loving, tender and devoted husband until her death almost 50 years later. He also had an exceptionally close and loving relationship with his daughter, Meri, who was so very proud to be his child.
He loved animals of all kinds, and they returned his affections. Allen proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
He owned and operated McManus Litho Supply in downtown Oklahoma City from 1976 to 2008. He served for several years on the advisory panel for the printing program at Moore-Norman Vo-Tech and was a long-time active member of the Eastern Oklahoma County Democratic Party. He also was a deacon at First Baptist Church, Midwest City, where he directed the fifth-grade Sunday school department for many years. Allen was a truly kind, honest, decent man who worked hard, never put his own needs above the needs of others and performed many acts of kindness in secret. He will be forever missed.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and sister, Letha Coates.
His survivors include his daughter Meri, Midwest City; his siblings, Lucille and L.D. Brandon of Choctaw, Donald and Peggy McManus of Oologah, Barbara Redus of Piedmont, and Russell Coates of Del City; his sister- and brother-in-law, Jean and Harold Higgins of Midwest City; his granddaughter, Bailey Workman, and her parents, Vivian and Phillip; many nieces, nephews and other relatives; and a host of devoted friends.
Anchors Aweigh, Until we meet once more, here's wishing you a happy voyage home!
