Joyce Leona Hickerson was born to Silas and Ethel (Hand) Whitesides in Lone Wolf, Okla., on July 28, 1929, and departed this life in Enid, Okla., on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at the age of 83 years, 8 months and 13 days.
She lived on the family farm where she was born in Lone Wolf.
She married DD Hickerson on June 1, 1946, in Vernon, Texas. To this union there were four sons, Dwight, Terry, Tim and Chris.
Joyce, Dwight and Terry moved overseas to be with DD during his military career.
She worked various jobs throughout the years. They moved back to the States and Tim and Chris were born in Clyde, Texas, in 1972, and they moved to Enid, where they made their home.
She was a homemaker while the boys where at home and later worked at Advanced Foods for 17 years before retiring.
After DD passed away in 2000, she stayed at home until 2002, when she moved to the Enid Senior Care Center. Joyce was very helpful and made many friends along the years.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Terry Hickerson; sister, Fern Stollenberg; and her parents.
Survivors include three sons, Dwight Hickerson and wife Janys of Enid, Okla., Tim Hickerson and wife Cindy of Enid, and Chris Hickerson and wife Charlene of Kingfisher, Okla.; daughter-in-law, Linda Hickerson of Enid; brother, Marvin Whiteside and wife Eva of Cherokee, Okla.; 12 grandchildren, Gennifer and Jim Martin, Amber Hickerson, Christina and Isaac Farnsworth, Justin Hickerson, Jeramie Tipton and Deidra, Whittney and Brandon Case, Brian Hickerson and fiancé Danellia Chautea, Michael Hickerson, Chelsie Hickerson and fiancé Josh Turner, Corey Martin, Dennis Lynch and Kaylee and Riley Jantzen and Stela; 15 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
