Rosemary (Rosie) Guthrie, 76, passed from this life on Dec. 4, 2015, in Oklahoma City. Rosemary was born to Earl Hiram Ross and Etta Viola Pettay on Feb. 21, 1939, in Painesville, Ohio. In Rosemary’s early years she went to grade school in Enid and went back to school at the age of 35 and received her GED.
She went on to Vo-tech school and received her CNA and other certificates in the health care industry.
Rosemary worked for the Enid State School for over 15 years, a true caregiver. To say that Rosemary was a fisherwoman, was an understatement.
She truly loved to fish. She would say, “Just drop me off here and I’ll be fine” then she would fish, fish, fish.
An avid crafter, artist and sculptor, Rosemary was told by the famous artist and teacher Bob Ross that he was wasting his time teaching her, and what was she doing in his class, because she was so talented. Rosemary replied, “Because I wanted to meet a famous person named Ross.”
Rosemary worked many years as the Concierge at the Oakwood Country Club, arranging major events and parties in Enid, Oklahoma.
Rosemary is survived by her partner in life James Campbell of Enid, two daughters: Earlene Gardner of War Acres, and Charlene Hickerson and husband Chris of Kingfisher; and one son Carl Hopkins of Enid; three sisters, Ruth Hall and husband Kenneth of Oklahoma City, Barbara McGee and husband of Aurora, Ohio and Jay Marie Salmine and husband of Thomas, Ohio. Rosemary leaves a legacy behind of grandchildren: Chelsie Turner, Amber Lockhart, Christine Farnsworth, Justin Hickerson, Kristina Newman, James Gardner, Jay Hopkins and Vince Hopkins, great-grandchildren: William, Viola, Michael, Oz, Sy, Taz, Constance, Alegaince, Veracity, Adrielle, Celestial, Kynslie and Christine. Rosemary was preceded in death by husband Kenneth, daughter Deana Robinette, two brothers: Kenneth Ross, Gene Ross and Walter Ross.
