Donald Marvin Longfellow was born 14 December 1914 in Hobart,
Oklahoma to James Warren Longfellow and Nellie Pearl (Shoup) Longfellow. He died
of a massive heart attack in his home on 30 June 1983 in Burns Flat, Oklahoma.
Mr. Longfellow graduated from Hobart High School in 1932. Mr. Longfellow
attended Oklahoma Agriculture and Mechanical (A&M) University in Stillwater and
graduated with a Masters’ in Business Administration (MBA). He returned Hobart
and taught at Hobart High School for a few years till he joined the U.S. Army
for World War II.
During WWII, Mr. Longfellow served in the South Pacific and was in battles of
Luzon, New Guina and Southern Philippines. He received the Philippines
Liberation Ribbon and Bronze Star.
After the end of the War, he returned to Fort Sill, Oklahoma and began his
Federal Career. He retired in 1975. He married Opal Jeanette Armistead on 06
August 1947 and divorced January 1978. They had one son.
Mr. Longfellow was a long-time member of the Oklahoma Mason's. He was a member
of the Methodist Church since childhood.
He is preceded by both his parents and a brother, Marion Thomas Longfellow and a
half-brother, John Allen Longfellow.
Survivors include a son, Army Captain Donald Longfellow stationed in Bamberg,
Germany; two step-sons, Larry Schnee of Tijunga, California; Ronald Schnee of
Walters, Oklahoma; two sisters Beulah Atherton of Wagoner, Oklahoma and Zedda
Quattlebaum of Leedey, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, and numerous nephews and
nieces.
Burial was in the Longfellow Family Plat at the Rose Cemetery located in Hobart,
Oklahoma.
