LAWTON, COMANCHE CO, OK
(permission granted)

William Edgar "Bill" Henderson was born on August 9, 1932 to Leroy and Fleda (Smith) Henderson at their ranch home in the Saddle Mountain community south of Mountain View, Oklahoma. He passed away October 15, 2013 in Lawton at a local hospital.

Bill grew up on the ranch and attended school at Cooperton. Upon his completion of High School he became a student at Cameron and Oklahoma A&M College, now Oklahoma State University, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. After graduation he returned to the ranch and to ranch life as an associate with his father. He became the operator of the ranch at his fathers death in 1960. Bill was a member of the Saddle Mountain Church of Christ before placing membership at Northwest Church of Christ in Lawton.
Bill married Mary Ruth Miller on April 17, 1957 at the home of her parents J.V. and Lozell Miller in the nearby Green Valley community. To this union two children were born: Lee J. and Leslie Ann.

Bill took pride in his cattle operation. He was never happier than when he was a stride his horse checking on the cattle. His days of ranch life were cut short when in 1994 he suffered an aneurism. Nevertheless, Bill was an uncomplaining man and with the faithful help of his wife and caregivers, Vanessa and Deborah, he continued to enjoy life up until the end when the Lord saw fit to call him home.
Bill always looked forward to the times when his children and grandchildren would come to visit. His residence was in Lawton but his heart was still in Saddle Mountain, and he and Mary always saw to it that the grandsons got to spend time on the ranch. The Henderson ranch had its beginning when Bills grandfather and grandmother Edgar and Rachael Henderson moved there in the early 1900. The grandsons are the fifth generation of the Henderson family who has a connection to the ranch.

Preceding Bill in death are his parents Leroy and Fleda Henderson, and his sister Fleda Lee Jennings.

In his passing, Bill leaves his loving wife Mary of 56 years, his daughter Leslie Henderson of Dallas, his son Lee J. Henderson and his wife Marta, three grandsons Taylor, Aaron and Will of Houston. Also his sister Nova Merle Henderson Cox of Purcell, along with a host of relatives and friends.
