The funeral for Dorothy Jean Hawk, 91 will be at 2:00 PM Friday September 25, 2020 at First United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. P. J. Stewart and Jimmy Berkenbile.
Burial will follow at Lyon Valley Cemetery under the direction of Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home.
Viewing will be at the funeral home from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Thursday.
Dorothy was born in Hennessey on February 19, 1929 to John and Helen Krebs Melendy and died Monday September 21, 2020 at Hennessey Care Center.She married Donovan O. Hawk in Hennessey on April 9, 1947. Dorothy was very active in the family’s dairy for many years. She was also well known for her beautiful custom cakes that she made for many occasions.She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Lacy Card Club.
Dorothy is survived by one daughter Carolyn Jean Tate and husband Monty of Wichita, Kansas; two sons Gary Hawk and wife Chandra, Jimmy Hawk and wife Kim; three brothers, Dale Melendy and wife Billie, Allen Melendy and wife Maxine, all of Hennessey, Max Melendy of San Antonio, Texas; one sister Mary Hampton and husband Franke of Kansas City, Missouri; twelve grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Donovan Hawk one son John Hawk, one brother Loren Melendy, one sister Betty Gritz, one infant brother, one great-grandson and one great-granddaughter.
Memorial
donations may be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association with the
funeral home serving as custodian of the fund.
