Fairview woman killed in freak mowing accidentFairview – A Fairview woman died Sunday after a tree limb about
4 feet high knocked her off a tractor and mower and possibly
asphyxiated her, Major County Undersheriff Cal Davis said
Monday.
Dead is Carol Truitt, 44. Truitt's husband, Bob, and an
unidentified worker, found the body about 4:30 PM, Davis said.
The accident happened at Williams Boy Scout Camp, about 8 miles
northeast of Fairview near U. S. 60, Davis said. Truitt's
husband is camp caretaker.
Davis said the tree limb was about a foot in diameter. According
to an investigation, the rollbar of the tractor apparently broke
the limb.
It knocked her off the back of the machine then fell on her
neck, according to Davis.
"The limb did fall on her and that's what we think killed her,"
Davis said.
After the accident, it looked as if the tractor went out of
control and hit a tree, Davis said. The tractor did not roll
over the woman.
Davis said Truitt was pronounced dead at the scene by the Major
County medical examiner.
