The death of Mrs. Joseph Rapp at her home seven and one-half miles east and one mile south of Hennessey, on Thursday, May 30, brought much sadness to the neighborhood in which she resided. Her death resulted form dropsy of the heart after an illness of seven months.

Mr. & Mrs. Rapp were among the early settlers of Oklahoma and were well known in this part of the county, and although Mrs. Rapp was the mother of a large family -- eleven children in all -- she always found time to lend a helping hand to a neighbor or friend in sickness or death or other trouble. Big hearted, capable, cheerful and willing, many homes have found in her a friend in their direst need. With the death of this noble woman a vacancy is made in the hearts of loved ones and neighbors that none can fill.

Mrs. Rapp was born in Missouri, her name being Miss Mary M. Schiley (Seila). Her age at death was sixty-one years, and six months.

Three children preceded Mrs. Rapp to the better world--Polly Rapp dying at Clay Center, Kansas, and George and John Rapp dying in early manhood since the family came to Oklahoma, and are buried in the old cemetery Southeast of Hennessey.

A husband and eight children are mourning the death of this loving wife and mother. The children are Mrs. M. M. McVicker, Waukomis; Mrs. Sophia Culberson, St. Joseph, Mo.; Mrs. Tillie Snyder, Wichita, Kansas; Mrs. Flora Moran, Wichita, Kansas; Ernest Rapp, of east of town, William and Miss Cora Rapp, the later two residing at the parental home. They were all present at Mrs. Moran, who was unable to attend on account of Illness.

Services was held over the remains Saturday morning at 10 o'clock, June 1, at St. Joseph's church in Hennessey, Father John T. Hall officiating. The funeral procession was one of the largest the history of the city. Interment was made in the city cemetery.
