Funeral for George W. Rains, 78-year-old Hennessey resident, will be 2 p.m. today, Feb. 25, 2013, at Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Terry Bunch will officiate. Burial will follow in Hennessey Cemetery.George was born Oct. 5, 1934, in Oilton, Okla., to Johnny Clayton and Mary Vesta (DePriest) Rains and died Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, in Hennessey.
He attended Lagoon school, north of Oilton. He began working in the oil fields as a roughneck, was later a pumper, and then finally a truck mechanic. He worked with various companies for more than 30 years. He was an avid OU fan, raced cars in his younger years and enjoyed fishing and going to the casino with his best friend Jean.
He is survived by his daughter, Patty Rains of Hennessey; son, Richard Rains and wife Darci of Yukon, Okla.; six grandchildren, Jaid, Chantel, Haven, Preston, Tiasha and Sam; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leon Idlett of Oklahoma City and John Rains of Hennessey. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as his special friend Jean Scruggs of Hennessey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jerry Rains; and two sisters, Dorothy Wilson and Wilma Kilhorn.Condolences may be made to the family at www.enidwe care.com.
