Leonard T. Merrill, only son of Mrs. May T. Merrill, of Hennessey, passed away Friday morning, August 11th, at Tulsa, after but a few days illness with pneumonia.
Mrs. Merrill received the message announcing her son's illness Monday, and left the same day for Tulsa, where she found him in a critical condition. He was at once removed to a hospital, where everything that medical skill and careful nursing could do, was done, but without avail. Death came Friday morning.
When friends here were notified of his death, Mr. S. A. Snyder went to Tulsa to assist in the arrangements for the shipment of the body, and the remains arrived here Saturday evening on No. 35.
Funeral services were held from the home on South Main street at 3:00 o'clock Sunday afternoon, and were conducted by Rev. J. B. Stocking, pastor of the Congregational church. The pall was borne by Vernie Osborn, Hiram Parks, Horace Staggs, Oliver Renshaw, Max Blackburn and Frank McGee, former schoolmates.
Many friends followed the remains to the cemetery -- their last tribute to the dead. The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful.
Those in attendance at the funeral from out of the city, were: Mrs. H. E. St. Clair, of Perry; Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Schowalter and Everett Liston, of Kingfisher; Mrs. W. R. Griffin, of Carnegie; Mrs. W. H. Stitzel, of Enid; Miss Allegra Berrigan, of Norman, and Hiram Parks, of Tulsa.
