Paul M. McCaleb, World War Veteran, Is Dead

End Came Friday at St. Louis Hospital
     - Had Been Blind Since January
          - Operations Failed to Bring Expected Relief
               - Funeral Held Here on Monday

Paul M. McCaleb, age 28 years, died at the United States Public Service Hospital in St. Louis, at 1:10 AM, Friday, July 23. Since entering the hospital early in the year, he underwent two operations, March 17 and June 29, but the efforts of the surgeons proved unavailing. He was removed to the hospital for treatment after losing his sight last January. His faithful wife remained with him almost constantly until his death.

The body was shipped to Hennessey, funeral services being held from the Christian church Monday afternoon, at 2 o'clock. Rev. C. H. Barnes, his former chaplain, officiated at the services and four members of the local American Legion post served as pallbearers, and formed a military escort to the church.

Besides his wife he is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. C. McCaleb, who reside in Lacy Township, west of Hennessey, and three brothers, John, Forrest and Thomas McCaleb, and three sisters, Mrs. Claude Holsey, of Hennessey; Mrs. Cora Bray of Cambridge, Kansas, and Mrs. Laura Carruthers, of Del Norte, California.

Paul M. McCaleb was born June 5, 1892, at Lawrence, Kansas, and was married to Miss Laura Goodspeed February 28, 1918. He entered the U. S. Service on May 6, 1918 being assigned after a period of training, to Company L, 141st Infantry, 36th Division, and it was while serving with that unit, overseas, that he sustained the injuries that finally resulted in his death.
