brothers and four sisters, was born May 13, 1835, and died July 18,
1907, at the age of 72 years, two months and five days. His parents,

of 21, moving to Minnesota where he accepted a position from the
government doctoring the Indians.
On August 27, 1857, he took unto himself a loving and faithful help
mate, Martha Crook, who still survives him. If he would have lived
until the 27th of next month they would have celebrated their 50th
anniversary. There was born to this happy union five children of
which two, Jesse and Bertie, died in childhood and Lonia, Logan and
Lyman still survive. In 1863, he enlisted for three years in the
24th Illinois Cavalry Volunteers, where he acted as assistant
surgeon. After the war he located at Newman, Illinois, moving west
in 1893 settling at Lacey, Oklahoma. He has been a member of the Odd
Fellows and Masonic lodges.
Husband and wife joined the Christian church early in
life devoting the rest of their allotted time to moral and Christian
labor. After being made elder in the church he devoted his time in
Christian work to the last singing "Jesus, Lover of My Soul" just a
few hours before his death.
