Betty M. Gritz
The funeral for Betty M. Gritz, 86, will be 10 a.m. Monday March 5, 2007 at First United Methodist Church. Lanny Jobe will officiate. Burial will be in Hennessey Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home assisted by Lanman Funeral Home, Helena.
She was born Nov. 21, 1920, in Lacey to Irvin L. “Peck” and Minnie Goodpasture Norris and died Friday, March 2, 2007, in Enid.
She graduated from Lacey High School in 1938 and attended beauty college. She married Robert L. “Bob” Gritz Nov. 19, 1940, in Protection, Kan. After living in Peoria, Ill., and in Enid, they returned to Hennessey in 1950. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She owned and operated a beauty shop in Hennessey for a number of years. She also worked at R.L. Gritz Jewelry Store and later R.L. Gritz Insurance Agency. She was a member of Hennessey Word Weavers and Thursday Night Write Sisters. She wrote a weekly column for the Hennessey Clipper for 10 years, retiring in 2005. She won awards for her writing on both local and state levels.
Surviving are her husband Bob Gritz, of the home; one daughter, Beth Hale of Woodside, Calif.; one son, Bert Gritz of Hennessey; three sisters, Mildred Mesis of Enid, Helen LaPorte of Hennessey and Shirley O’Connor of Dover, Del.; six grandchildren; one foster granddaughter; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter and one brother.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Multiple Sclerosis Society.
