Mrs. Ida May Fuhrmann, 81, died at 6 o'clock
Sunday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. L. Cloud, in
Wellston, Oklahoma. She had been in ill health for the past two
years and bedfast since October 19.
Funeral services were held at the First Methodist Church in
Hennessey Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Paul E.
Osman, the pastor, officiating. Interment was made in the
Hennessey Cemetery beside her deceased husband.
Ida Mae Van Treese, daughter of S. S. A. and Catherine Spencer
Van Treese, was born at Brockville, Jasper County, Illinois,
October 1, 1870, and departed this life at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. H. L. Cloud, in Wellston, Oklahoma, November 25,
1951, at the age of 81 years, one month and 25 days.
At the age of 12 she moved to Kansas with her parents, who
homesteaded in Edwards County, near the present town of Kinsley.
There she grew to womanhood and married L. H. Fuhrmann December
29, 1889.
In the spring of 1890 she pioneered to Oklahoma with her
husband, where they established their home on a claim 6 miles
southeast of Hennessey. It was there their children were born
and reared: Mrs. Ermel Hamil, of Alhambra, California; Mrs. H.
L. Cloud, of Wellston, Oklahoma; Mrs. J. V. Richards, of
Hennessey, and John H. Fuhrmann, of Caldwell, Kansas.
Ill health and aging years made it necessary they
retire from the farm. In the fall of 1942 they moved to
Hennessey, and it remained their home until the death of her
husband in the summer of 1949, after which she lived for a while
in a convalescent home in Enid, and later in the homes of her
children.
She was converted at an early age and became a member of the
Methodist Church when it was first organized at Oak View. Later
her membership was placed in the Hennessy Methodist Church,
where it remained until at the present time.
She was a true follower of Christ, always placing spiritual
things and Christian loyalty first at all times. Her love and
devotion to her family as well as her love and concern for the
welfare of friends and neighbors was clearly demonstrated
throughout her daily living. Her many deeds of kindness and her
willingness to share time and substance with those in need will
long be remembered by many. She was the last in passing of a
family of 13 children.
She leaves to mourn her memory, besides her children, 11
grandchildren and 15 great – grandchildren and a host of friends
and neighbors.
