Funeral service for Melvin Roy McCartney, of Bison, will be 10 a.m. Monday, May 18, 2009, at Waukomis Christian Church with Pastor Dave Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Cimarron Valley Cemetery . Service is under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.

Melvin was born Oct. 7, 1931, in Hitchcock, Okla., to John Palmer and Anna Leslie McCartney, and went to be with his heavenly Father on May 13, 2009, while at home surrounded by his loving family.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and then served five more years in the Army Reserve. After dating Elsie Davis for five years, they were married on March 13, 1954, in Kingfisher and had just celebrated 55 years of marriage. He and Elsie eventually made their home in Bison where Melvin worked in the oil fields and the Bison- Waukomis Co-Op for most of his life. He enjoyed his family and spent time being with them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Westley, six brothers and six sisters.

Melvin is survived by his wife, Elsie, of the home; two sons, Ed McCartney and wife, Cindy, and Calvin McCartney and wife, Rutheen; three daughters, Debbie McCartney, Cindy Reed and husband, Rocky, and Wanda McCartney; nine grandchildren, Eddie McCartney, Melvin Roye, Raydeana McCartney, Tricia Collins, John Hill, Blake McCartney, Krystal McCartney, Melissa McCartney and Erika McCartney, as well as nine great-grandchildren, Brendon and Gage McCartney, Adrion McCartney, Ty, Shay and Paige Collins, Chloe Roye, Leah and Lain Hill; one brother, Chancy McCartney; and one sister, Olive Schroeder.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Hospice Circle of Love.
