Vernon A. Vaverka, 78, Dennis, Kansas, passed away at 12:44 p.m. Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at Labette Health in Parsons, Kansas.

He was born August 29, 1939, on a farm near Waukomis to Albin J. and Bessie A. (Hromas) Vaverka. He and his three siblings were raised by their parents on a farm east of Hennessey.
 
Vernon walked a short distance down the road to attend Centerview Grade School, a one-room school, where both Czech and English were spoken. Vernon enjoyed school and had a love for football. He was a 1957 graduate of Hennessey High School.
After high school, he married Carolyn A. Pospisil. They were parents to two boys, Vernon Christopher and Dennis Wayne Vaverka. The couple divorced after 28 years of marriage.
 
While living in Oklahoma, Vernon was a farmer south of Enid and also worked at local businesses. His first job was with John Suttmiller's Texaco Station in Enid.
 
Vernon was married to Susan Scott in 1987. They later divorced. Upon their marriage, Susan had three daughters, Stacey, Sherry and Samantha, who he considered to be his own. They later had a son, Bryce W. Vaverka.
For many years, Vernon worked for the Beachner Grain Company and retired as manager of the Parsons office in December of 2005.

Survivors include: two sons, Vernon Christopher Vaverka of North Newton, KS, Bryce W.S. Vaverka of Dennis, KS; Susan's daughters, Stacey Leech and her husband, Jim, of Parsons, KS, Sherry Whitaker of Webb City, MO, Samantha Mathis and her husband, Jake, of Parsons, KS; two brothers, Wilfred A. Vaverka of Independence, KS, Ronnie L. Vaverka of Hennessey; grandson, Brandon A. Vaverka of Stillwater, as well as eight others he considered as grandchildren.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Dennis W. Vaverka, on March 17, 1996; and one sister, Vivian V. (Vaverka) Patocka.
 
The Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary will be prayed at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 5, 2018, Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, Parsons, Kansas.

The family will receive friends following the Rosary until 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

A graveside service is 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 6, 2018, at the Calvary Cemetery, Hennessey, Oklahoma.
