Wake services for Michael Schwarz, Jr., 87, Hennessey, will be at 7:00 PM Sunday April 24, 2016 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM Monday April 25, 2016 at St. Joseph's officiated by Rev. Ed Menasco.

Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery under the direction of Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home.

Mike was born in Okarche on March 22, 1929 to Michael and Caroline Maschino Schwarz and died Friday April 22, 2016 at his home in Stillwater.

Mike graduated from Holy Trinity High School and served in the U.S. Army in Korea. He later moved to Hennessey and opened Hennessey Ready Mix in 1955. He owned and operated the business for fifty years until he retired in 2005.

Mike married Catherine Thompson in Oklahoma City on February 2, 1956. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the VFW.

Mike and Cathy enjoyed camping with their children and in later years went on several cruises and traveled the world. Mike shared his joy of cooking for his family which became tradition.

Mike is survived by his wife Cathy of the home; five children Audrey Schwarz, Elizabeth Young and husband Guy, Michael Schwarz and wife Stephanie, Steven Schwarz and wife Donna, Teresa Schwarz; 10 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers; six sisters; one daughter Susan Schwarz Shaw and one grandson Dillon Clay Schwarz.

Memorial donations may be made in his name to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation with the funeral home serving as custodian of the fund.

HENNESSEY- Catherine Gay Schwarz passed away on October 1, 2020, in Stillwater, Oklahoma, surrounded by family. Cathy was born in Kingfisher on September 8, 1935.

Cathy married Michael Schwarz II, on February 2, 1956. She was a member and past president of the local Hennessey Child Study Club and past president of the State of Oklahoma Mothers Club. She was the Vice President of the Hennessey and Crescent Ready-Mix plants, and President of Schwarz Leasing. She was a devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Cathy was an incredible force and loved family and traditions. Mike and Cathy could often be found traveling the world and “dragging their kids from pillar to post”!

Cathy was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Schwarz II, one daughter Susan Schwarz-Shaw, Susan’s father Bill Gritz, one grandson Dillon Schwarz, and one son-in-law Alfred Guy Young; her mother Lorraine Montgomery and husband L. J., George Thompson; one brother Melvin Thompson (Marge), and one step-brother Dix Montgomery.

She is survived by her children, Audrey Schwarz, Elizabeth Young, Michael (Stephanie) Schwarz, Steven (Donna) Schwarz, and Teresa Schwarz (fiancé Ken Roder); nine grandchildren Stephanie Mechell Lim, Christopher Harris, Carey (Kelly) Harris, Stacy (Seth) List, Kendra (Jason) Barnes, Jenna (Justin) Pickle, Weston Schwarz, Jared Carnes, and Jason Carnes; five great grandchildren Matthew (Joy), Chandler (Grace), Julia, Jack, Will; and four great great-grandchildren Sunny Ray, Sutton, Isaac, Madeline Marie; one sister Wanda Choate (Max), one step-sister Ona Gay Glazier and one step-brother Rex Montgomery.

Cathy and Mike raised their six children by these words: “If we aren’t strong together, then we can’t keep them strong and together. We won’t be able to teach them how to do it.”

A wake service will be held at 7:00 PM Sunday October 4, 2020 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hennessey, Oklahoma.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 2:00 PM Monday, October 5, 2020.
