Olive Lorraine (Short) Barker

Olive L. Barker was born October 26, 1937 in Coyle, Oklahoma to Carrie Brisby Short. She passed away February 9, 2014 in Dover, Oklahoma at the age of 76 years.

Olive was born and raised in this area and attended and graduated from Crescent Public Schools. After graduation she met the love of her life Charles Barker. They were united in marriage in 1956. She then worked for Pioneer Telephone as a switchboard operator for several years. Olive then managed several restaurants and was known to many as “Ma Barker”. Later in life she volunteered at the Dover Public School as the librarian then she retired and became a devoted housewife. Olive loved basketball especially OU and the OKC Thunder. She loved spending time with her family and her grandchildren were the light of her life.
 
Survivors include her husband, Charles of the home; two daughters, Sara Jech and husband Danny of Kingfisher and Tammie Gibson and husband Terrance of Dover; two sisters, Pearl Smith of Dover and JoAnn Houser and husband Dick of Hawthorne, CA; two brothers, Robert Short and wife Jan of Hallsville, TX and Charles Clawson and wife Donita of Duncan, OK; four grandchildren, Jodie Blevins, Ryan Gibson, Travis Gibson, and Lorraine Brzozowske; six great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her mother, two brothers, and one great grandson.
 
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, February 13, 2014 at the Crescent First Baptist Church with Rev. Chauncey Moody officiating. Burial will follow in the Banner Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Abernathy Aaron Funeral Home in Crescent. In lieu of flowers the family would like memorials to be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation – www.pulmonaryfibrosis.org
