Burial will follow in the Altona Cemetery, Omega,
under the direction of Turner Funeral Home of Hinton. The body
will lie in state from 11 AM until service time.
She was born November 12, 1904, in Macey, Indiana, to Frank and
Georgia Belle (Hamilton) Joyce and died Wednesday, October 9,
1996, in Kingfisher.
She moved to Altona in 1905 from Indiana. She married Benjamin
Gilbert Townsend on August 22, 1923, in Kingfisher. They owned
and operated a grocery store in Omega for 40 years. She was
longtime member of the Altona Congregational Church and the
Altona Ladies Aide Club.
She is survived by three daughters, Dorothy Rathjen of Guthrie,
Delores Hale of Sun City, California, Wilma Seebeck of Norman;
one son, Clifford Townsend of Wellston; two sisters, Bessie
Wells, Lucy Haffner, both of Kingfisher; 13 grandchildren, 29
great – grandchildren, seven great – great – grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and
four sisters.
