Lorrine Burnett, resident of Ponca City, passed away Monday morning, February 14, 2011 at the Integris Blackwell Regional Hospital. She was 84 years of age.

Lorrine was born June 19, 1926 at Denoya, Oklahoma, the daughter of T.C. Burrus and Ella Mae Wren Burrus. She was a 1945 graduate of Burbank High School where she excelled at basketball. She was married to Gene Burnett on July 20, 1946. She was a longtime bookkeeper for Futures Unlimited in Wellington, Kansas, retiring at the age of 71. She was a member of the Church of Christ, also in Wellington. Her enjoyments were her grandchildren and great grandchildren, gardening and having her hands in the dirt. She was also an avid Oklahoma University sports fan, especially of the womens basketball team.

Lorrine was truly the matriarch of the Burnett family and will be sorely missed by all who had the opportunity to be loved by her. She is survived by her four children, Lonnie Burnett and wife, Juskwa, Ponca City, Brad Burnett, Ponca City, Becky Fields and husband, Charles, Ponca City, and Sue Pitman and husband, Larry, of Brookland, Arkansas two brothers, Bob Burrus and wife, Virginia, of Oklahoma City, and Floyd Burrus of Guthrie, Oklahoma 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents her husband two brothers, Carl Thomas Burrus and Douglas Burrus one sister, Ilene Burrus Crowley.

There will be a noon meal for the family on Friday, February 18, 2011 at the Johnnie McCauley Multipurpose Center East of Newkirk. Funeral services will then follow at 2 p.m.. Burial will follow in the Washunga Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
