Marilyn “Tootsie” Cornell passed away Tuesday afternoon, September 10, 2019, in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 74. She was born to George H and Vivian (Horse Chief Eagle) Cornell on May 22, 1945 in Ponca City, Oklahoma.
Tootsie grew up in the Ponca City area, graduating from PoHi in 1963. She continued her education attending Northern Oklahoma College then Oklahoma State University and received her Associates Degree.
Tootsie found great joy being among her family and friends. She enjoyed reading and attending the Pow Wows. At times she could be found at the Casino. She was a proud member of the Tonkawa Scalp Dance Society as well as a faithful member of the Faith Baptist Church in Fort Oakland, Oklahoma.
She leaves behind her three brothers; Simon and his wife Roxanna Cornell of Ponca City, Michael and his wife Susan Cornell of Tonkawa, George E Cornell and his companion Carla of Tonkawa, sister; Georgiana “Mitzi” Cornell of Ponca City, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Tootsie was preceded in death by her parents; George and Vivian Cornell, and three brothers; Allen Cornell, Richard Cornell and Bruce Cornell, nephew; Richard Cornell, Jr. and two grandsons; Allen Cornell, Jr and Dominque Paschal.
Traditional Tribal Funeral Services will conclude for Tootsie on Friday, September 13th with the noon feast followed by the funeral service at the Tonkawa Tribal Gymnasium. Pastors Brandon Kimble, Jim White and Lewis Headman presiding. Tootsie will be laid to rest in the Tonkawa Tribal Cemetery. Casket bearers will include; C J Cornell, Jody Cornell, Jayden Myer, Henry Cornell, George Cornell and Joe Begs His Own.
