Hugh Martin
1934 - 2009
Hugh Martin, resident of Ponca City, died Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at his home. He passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 75.
The service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, at First Assembly of God with the Rev. Micah Wells presiding. Burial will follow at Tonkawa IOOF Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory.
Hugh was born Friday, June 29, 1934, in Sasakwa. He graduated from the Blackwell Public Schools in 1952, and then graduated from Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa in 1955. He was married to Ann Schatz on March 24, 1955, in Tonkawa.
Hugh worked at the Enid Champlin Oil Refinery, Gary Oil Refinery in Grand Junction, Colo; and Conoco Oil Refinery in Commerce City, Colo., and retired in 1996 in Ponca City. Hugh enjoyed golf, camping, fishing, woodworking, and spending time with friends and relatives.
Those surviving Mr. Martin are his wife, Ann; sons, Hugh Martin and wife Ce of Aurora, Colo. and Thomas Martin of Bennett, Colo.; daughter, Julie Franke and husband Charles of Norman; brothers, Joel Martin of Los Ojos, N. M., and Charles Martin of Blackwell; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Joel and Della Martin, and his twin brother, John Robert Martin.
