Charles D. Cheek, age 91, formerly of Tonkawa and Ponca City, resident of Kansas City, MO passed away Thursday, November 22, 2018 in Kansas City.

A funeral ceremony to celebrate his life will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, December 1, 2018 at the Trout Funeral Home of Tonkawa. Following the ceremony, Charles will be laid to rest with U.S. Army Honors next to his wife Joan at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Tonkawa. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Tonkawa.

Charles Dickman Cheek was born October 8, 1927 in Sterling, Colorado to parents James T and Hallie (Dickman) Cheek. The family moved to Scotts Bluff, Nebraska where James T passed away in 1930. The family moved to Tonkawa Oklahoma in 1933. Charles attended Tonkawa grade school and graduated from Tonkawa High School in 1945. He attended Northern Oklahoma College in 1946, then Oklahoma State University where he graduated with his Bachelor's degree in civil engineering in 1951. Charles served in Korea as a combat engineer from 10/1/52 to 5/28/54. Charles married Joan Schug in Tonkawa, Oklahoma on 8/25/48 and was married to her until her death 8/2/2002. They had one son Randy who was born in 1955. Charles worked as an engineer for the US Soil and Conservation Service from the summer of 1951 until his retirement in May of 1986, with a break for military service 1951-1954.

Survivors include his son Randy Cheek and wife Kathryn of Kansas City, MO granddaughter Melinda Moore and partner Sandy Jensen of Topeka, KS, and great grandchildren: Sawyer and Sullivan Jensen-Moore of Topeka.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister Kathleen Thompson, and brother James T. Cheek.
