Betty Bernice Hurt Herard, resident of Ponca City, Oklahoma passed away Monday, May 29, 2017 in Ponca City, Oklahoma. At the age of 93.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday, June 2, 2017 at Trout Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Richard Robinson officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Casketbearers will be her grandsons, Bruce Johnson, Mike Karlin, Richard Herard, Tony Herard, Russell Herard, and Joe Herard.
Betty Bernice Hurt Herard was born in Sedan, KS on September 17, 1923 to J. Dennie Hurt and Letha Fern Stafford Hurt. She grew up in the Chautauqua County area on a farm. She attended grade school at Rodgers County School until 8th grade, then Sedan school.
She worked at Smith 5 & 10 store in Sedan before her marriage to F.W. (Bud) Herard on December 23 in 1944. She worked for Harmon’s Grocery in Sedan before moving to Ponca City. She then went to work for Kroger’s Grocery for 3 years, and then for M & W Grocers on West Grand for 16 years. After this she retired to stay home and take care of her mother-in-law.
Betty belonged to the McCord Homemakers Club then the Wah-Sha-She Club. She was a member of the Catholic Church.
Survivors are daughter Franc Ann Johnson of Eagle Lake, TX, daughter Leah Rae Karlin and husband Karl of Borger, TX, and daughter in law Charlene Herard of Bartlesville. Grandchildren Joe Herard and wife Karen of Ponca City, Russel Herard and wife Karan of Ragley, LA, Tony Herard and wife Linda of Crane, TX, Becky Tootle and husband Tim of Mulvane, KS, Melissa Witchurch and husband Richard of Bartlesville, OK, Richard Herard and wife Cheryl of Barnsdall, OK, Chana Ware and husband Mason of Hinton, OK, Annette Green and husband Steve of Tulsa, OK, Jeannine Allen and husband Wayne of Zachary, LA, Bruce Johnson and wife Berta of Alleyton, TX, Mike Karlin and wife Ruthie of Fritch, TX, Karla Florer of Borger, TX, Jean Rose and husband Steve of Fort Worth, TX, Julie Espinoza and husband Joe of Princeton, TX, one nephew Dennie Hurt of Tulsa, as well as 23 great grandchildren and 31 great great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, F.W. (Bud) Herard, and son David Herard, as well as both parents, her brother Jim Hurt and her sister Joan Hale.
