In 1977, they purchased a small trash hauling business, successfully transforming, and expanding it into a large residential and commercial waste sanitation business. They retired and moved to Ponca City in 2006.

While in Erie, Mona was active in her community. She was a founding member of the Erie Emergency Care Unit, an all-volunteer ambulance service, serving on the board and planning the monthly scheduling for 20 years. She was Secretary of the Erie Planning Commission, a member of two bridge clubs as well as a couple's bridge club, Monday Study Club, and volunteered where needed.
