Funeral services for Edith Babb, 90, of Enid, will be held at 2 PM on Monday, December 17, 2001, in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Miller officiating. The burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery southwest of Tonkawa under the direction of Henninger – Allen Funeral Home. The casket will not be opened following the services.
Edith was born July 15, 1911, to James C. And Charlotte H. (Schlehauber) Henderson near Lamont, Oklahoma and died Thursday, December 13, 2001, in Enid.
The former Edith Henderson married Vernon F. Babb and the couple had five children: two daughters, Sandy and Judy and three sons, Vernon Jr., Gary and Willis.
She was very active in the Glenwood School Mothers Club when her children attended and was instrumental in establishing the first hot lunch program. She joined Glenwood Neighbors Home Extension Club the second meeting after it was chartered and was an active member until the club was disbanded several years ago. Edith was an avid participant in the Garfield County Fair serving as superintendent of the flower department for many years.
After her children were grown, she worked at the Enid Sale Barn, Patio Garden Center, Oklahoma Floral, the Garfield County Election Board as an inspector and until August 2001 was employed by West Side United Grocery distributing samples.
She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church, TEL Sunday School Class and Prime Timers.
