Garry Ronald Yates, age 84, of Ponca City, Oklahoma passed away December 17, 2020 at Alliance Health in Ponca City, Oklahoma. A Graveside Ceremony will take place at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Resthaven Memorial Park, with Pastor Mark Busch officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.
Garry was born on August 2, 1936 in Ponca City, Oklahoma to Harold and Della (McMonigle) Yates. On July 13, 1955, Garry married the love of his life, Margaret Cook in Ponca City. She preceded him in death in 11 months ago.
Garry began his career in the United States Army in 1955. He was stationed in Germany for several years and South Korea. He held many different positions in the Army he was a drill sergeant, recruiter and worked with the Military Police. Garry later retired honorably in 1981. He worked for nearly 20 years at Smith Tool and after retirement, Garry worked for Jack Bowker Ford driving and picking up cars for customers. He was an active member of his church Brookfield Wesleyan, later named Connect Church.
He also was a member of the Christmas Motorcycle Association and enjoyed driving his trike out to Lake Ponca and watching as well as feeding the ducks. He is survived by his son, Garry Wayne Yates and his wife, Catherine, of Lewisville, TX.
