Ed was born on February 20, 1938 to Stella (Roebuck) Whitfield and Harvey Zeno Whitfield in Hamilton, NC. After high school, he served in the Army National Guard. Ed served as a controller for the Kempsville Missile Battalion in Virginia. Later, he attended East Carolina College in North Carolina and William and Mary College in Virginia. He married Joy Allen (Culver) on November 11, 1960 in Norfolk, Virginia. Early in his working career, Ed sold life insurance and was named as the top selling agent in Oklahoma for Metropolitan Life. However, his true passion was construction. He brought integrity to his projects and his customers knew they weren't being cheated because he was an honest man and always true to his word. Ed loved meeting new friends, taking every opportunity to chat with people nearby. As a Christian, he embodied the virtue of being a cheerful giver. If it was possible, Ed would give anything to help anyone along the way. Ed was a member of the Osage Heights Baptist Church and served as a Sunday School teacher for several years.
