December 14, 1925 - April 2, 2014

Clarence Robert Shaw, resident of Ponca City, passed away at his home on Wednesday, April 2, 2014. He was 88.

A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, at St. Pauls United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Doyle Sharp, pastor, officiating. Interment to follow in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Trout Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Larry Goad, Steve Miner, Steve Miner II, Steve Rice, Gene Wittum, and Jerry Wittum. Serving as honorary pallbearers Sonny Rice, Ray Lewis, and Gene Jennings.

Clarence was born December 14, 1925, in Newkirk, Ok., to Arthur and Jessie Shaw. He graduated from Ponca City High School in 1944 and immediately entered the service and trained at Camp Hood, Tx. His unit served under the direction of General Patton in WW II.

Upon his return home, he attended Oklahoma State University and also worked at his familys business, Shaws Parts and Machine Shop. On July 25, 1952 he married Lois Jean Walker and they celebrated 55 years together until her unexpected passing in December 2007. In 1969, he purchased the firm from his parents. After liquidating the business in 1980, he worked for the Huffy Bicycle Plant and the City of Ponca City Motor Pool before retiring in 1995.

Throughout his lifetime, Clarence enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding motorcycles, raising and showing French Alpine Dairy goats and watching Womens softball and basketball.

Survivors include a sister, Maxine Lewis and husband Ray of Bartlesville, three daughters, Diane Shaw of Hurst, TX., Darlene Miner of Denver, PA., and Darla Christian and husband Dennis of Ponca City; niece, Brenda Lewis of Bartlesville, grandchildren, Steven Miner II, Michelle Johnson, Stefanie Throneberry and Jenny Christian; five great-grandchildren and a very special friend, Rebekah Clinton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a nephew and a great-grandson.

The family will receive friends at Trout Funeral Home in the chapel from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 6.

July 22, 1933 - December 31, 2007

Lois Jean Shaw, resident of Ponca City, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2007 at Ponca City Medical Center. She was 74. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 10am on Friday, January 4, 2007 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Lisa Crone-Sheldon, Pastor, officiating. Interment to follow in Resthaven Memorial Park, under the direction of Trout Funeral Home.

Lois was born July 22, 1933 in Caldwell, Kansas to Sam and LaVerne Walker. She was an only child but considered her cousins, the Wittum boys, to be her brothers. Lois graduated from Blackwell High School in 1951 and moved to Ponca City when she married Clarence Shaw on July 25, 1952. Lois worked in numerous jobs throughout her life, but is best known for the time she was employed at McVay Outfitters/US Loan and Surplus Pawn Shop. She also did sewing and alterations for several local retail clothing stores, the City of Ponca City and many individuals. Before her latest health problems, Lois enjoyed crocheting, reading autobiographies and playing bingo with her long-time friend, Mary Lou Jennings.

Survivors include her husband, Clarence and their beloved cat “Kitty” of the home; three daughters, Diane Shaw of Tulsa, OK, Darlene Miner of Denver, PA and Darla Christian and husband Dennis of Ponca City; grandchildren, Steven Miner, II, Michelle Johnson, Stefanie Gardner and Jenny Christian and three great-grandchildren, Hailey Malone, Cambry Malone and Vaughn Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a great-grandson, Vincent Rock Johnson.

Lois had the kindest spirit, loved unconditionally and brought happiness to so many. She will truly be missed by all her loved ones and friends but there is peace in knowing she has been reunited with all of the loved ones that have gone before her.

For those friends who will be unable to attend the service, the family will be available from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2007 at Trout Funeral Home.
