Erma Mendenhall former longtime resident of Ponca City passed away in Wichita, KS with her family by her side. She was 99 years of age. Erma was born on April15, 1919 in Elgin, Iowa to Grey and Louise Nydegger Reed.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 3, 2018 in the Sunset Baptist Church with Pastor Matt Click officiating. Interment will follow in the Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery under the care of Grace Memorial Chapel of Ponca City. Visitation will be held Sunday, December 2, 2018 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the family in attendance to receive friends and relatives from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The family has asked memorial donations to be made in her name to the Sunset Baptist Church.
Erma came to Ponca City as a young child with her family. She met the love of her life Lester Mendenhall and they were married May 28, 1938 in Ponca City and they made Ponca City their home. She was a charter member of the Sunset Baptist church and for several years she was the Children’s Sunday School director. During her early years she enjoyed fishing and camping with family. After her husband passed she moved to Enid to be with her son in 2003 and then she moved to Wichita in 2006 to be close to her daughter. During her later years she enjoyed playing penuckle and hand & foot cards, working jigsaw puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include: 3 sons: Roger Mendenhall and wife Linda of Medford, Oregon Larry Mendenhall and wife Mary Jane of Bartlesville, OK and Doyle Mendenhall and wife Bonnie of Greenwood, Indiana, 1 daughter; Lisa Stephenson and husband Randy of Wichita, Kansas. Numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, Nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lester of 51 years, parents, 5 brothers: Lester Reed, Howard Reed, Dwayne Reed, Darryl Reed and Forrest Reed.
