Larry Allen McGavran former resident of Ponca City, OK passed away Friday April 28, 2017 in Mannford, OK with his family by his side. Larry was 74 years of age. He was born on September 27, 1942 in Seattle, Washington to Wilbur and Liane McGavran. Graveside services will be held 3 p.m. Thursday in the Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Ron McCormick and Pastor Steve Bradshaw officiating. Military honors will be done by Ft Sill Army Base, Fort Sill, OK.
Younger years in Idaho, Iowa, Oregon and Washington. He felt the call to Duty and on November 16, 1959 he entered the United States Army and after living Army for 20 years he retired on December 1, 1979. During his service, Larry spent 6 years in West Germany, 3 years in Naples, Italy, and 2 years in South Vietnam, Colorado, California, Kansas, North Carolina and Texas. Larry was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service, the Air Medal, 2 Army Commendation Medals, 5 Good Conduct medals, the National Defense Medal, 1 Vietnam Campaign medal with 9 stars and the Vietnam Service Medal. After retiring from the Military he met the love of his life, Iva Burnett while working security at Conoco in Ponca City and they were married June 16, 1980 in Wellington, KS and they made their home in Ponca City. Larry enjoyed spending time with his family, eating chicken fingers and he loved his Cherry Vanilla Ice Cream. Larry was a beloved member of the Ponca City Bible Methodist Church.
Survivors include: 2 sisters; Carol and Barb, 1 niece; Kathy, 1 step daughter Vicky, 1 granddaughter: Dee Marie, 3 great grandchildren: Matthew, Caitlin and Chloe. Also an Honorary Adopted Son: David and his wife Annie and their daughter Francella of Mannford, OK. Also surviving is a great Friend: Sandra Marston of Glenpool, OK.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Wife Iva of 31 years, a brother: Gary, Sister; Patricia, and a granddaughter: Carla.
