Ethel Geneva Jorgenson, resident of Ponca City, passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2009 at her home. She was 86.
Ethel was born the daughter of Leonard Arthur Maphet and Mille Madeline Decker Maphet in Enid, Oklahoma on September 22, 1922. She grew up in Enid and graduated from Enid High School in 1940. Ethel married Burnell D. Jorgenson on June 2, 1940 in Enid, and to this union six children were born. In 1980, Ethel earned an associates degree in Psychology from Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa. Ethel was a dental assistant for Dr. E.J. Crowder DDS, Dr. Glen Hocker, DDS and Dr. Robert Moore DDS for several years. She was a member of the National Dental Assistance Association and the Oklahoma Dental Assistant Association. She was a three time past president of the Kay County Dental Association, past president of Credit Women Association and past board chairman of First Christian Church. Ethel was a longtime member of First Christian Church in Ponca City, since 1971 and a 10 year member of the Church Bell Choir. Ethel loved playing the piano and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and her presence will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her children, Paul Jorgenson of Kennewick, Washington; Bobby Jorgenson and wife, Claudia and Jackie Jorgenson both of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Linda Erwin and husband, Duane of Del City, Oklahoma, Sherron Rogers and husband, Robert Bob of Ponca City, Oklahoma and Susan White and husband, Orville of Middletown, Delaware; brother, Ronnie Maphet and wife, Pat of Enid, Oklahoma; sisters, Olive Traylor and husband, Duane of Enid, Oklahoma, Wanda Davenport and husband, Melvin of Concordia, Kansas; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; four great, great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Burnell, March 3, 1971; grandson, Troy Jorgenson; great grand daughter, Andrea Jorgenson; two brothers and one sister.
Honorary casket bearers for the service will be sons, Paul, Bobby and Jackie Jorgenson and son-in-laws, Duane Erwin, Bob Rogers, and Orville White.
A formal visitation will be on Wednesday, August 26, 2009 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Grace Memorial Chapel. The graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 27, 2009 at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery with The Rev. Larry Metzger officiating. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, 1904 North Union, Ste. 103, Ponca City, Oklahoma 74601. The family will be at 1024 Brentwood, Ponca City, Oklahoma.
