Veta Mae Holmes, Longtime Ponca City resident passed away Sunday afternoon April 24, 2016 in Ponca City. She was 82 years of age. Veta was born on December 19, 1933 in Weatherford, OK to Elmer Clarence and Leva Mae Lindsey Harris.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday April 27, 2016 in the Ranch Drive Baptist Church with Dr. Robert Ryan officiating. Interment will follow in the Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery in Ponca City, OK. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel of Ponca City. Veta grew up in Weatherford and attended high school there. She met Leroy Miner and on November 8, 1952 they were married and made their home in Weatherford. They moved to Ponca City in 1957 and Leroy preceded her in death on August 20, 1977. She then married A.C. Holmes on July 2, 1982 and they made their home in Ponca City and he preceded her in death in 2008. Veta worked for Dwyers Hallmark for 8 years as a sales clerk, she loved spending time with her grandbabies, fishing, boating and square dancing.

Survivors include: 1 son; Steven Miner and wife Denise of Ponca City, OK 1 daughter: Rhonda Miner and husband Tom of Ponca City 1 sister: Betty Franklin of Tahlequah, OK 9 grandchildren; Steven Miner II, Stacey Burton, Michael Hays, James Miner, Bill Miner, Tara Miner, Tommie Jo Smith, Sarah McGugan and Dakota Miner, 22 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her Faithful Dachshund companion: Penny.

Veta was preceded in death by her parents, 2 husbands, 1 daughter: Linda Hays Jan. 2014, 2 brothers 1 sister and 2 infant sons.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Ponca City Nursing and Rehab and Hospice of North Central Oklahoma for their care and support during Veta's last days.
