Eva (James) French

Eva French, longtime resident of Ponca City, passed away Tuesday, July 15,
2008 at the Westminster Village Nursing Center. She was 97.
Eva was born June 30, 1911 at Haney, Oklahoma, the daughter of Frank James and
Jennie (Caulkins) James. She received her early education in the Yale, Oklahoma
schools. She was married to Paul Robert French on December 14, 1929 in
Stillwater, Oklahoma with couple establishing their first home in Yale.
Throughout her years Eva had owned and operated a fish aquarium business and
also was an Avon representative for several years. She was a member of the
Rebecca Lodge. Her enjoyments included watching her "Braves" baseball team play
on TV., and following the Dallas Cowboys. In her earlier years she was an avid
bowler, loved crocheting house shoes and Afghans for all her family, and was a
house mom for many boys in need of a home.
Survivors include her two children, Don French, and wife, LaWanda and Cleta
Spore and husband, Alvin, all of Ponca City; one sister, Helen Bledsoe of
Oklahoma City; one brother, Jack "Corky" James and wife, Bonnie, of Ponca City;
6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 16 great great grandchildren;
numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Paul, on February 2, 1987;
one infant son, Bobby; four sisters, Viola Wanhalla, Virginia Gelbar, Rene
Monroe and Marjorie Colliar; two brothers, Archie James and Raymond James; and
one grandson, Larry Spore.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 21, 2008 at Resthaven
Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
