Ronald Charles Fossen Sr., longtime resident of Ponca City,
passed away Saturday, July 12, 2008 at his home. He was 68.
Ron was born July 20, 1939 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the son of Orley E.
Fossen and Charlotte (Fulmer) Fossen. He was married to Mary Ann Mattos on
September 24, 1989. Mary preceded him in death on April 16, 2006.
Ron retired from Smith International on October 1, 2002 after 43 years of
employment. He began his career with Smith International on May 12, 1959 in
Compton, California. He worked as a Cost Accountant in the Accounting Department
while attending UCLA. He later became the General Accounting Supervisor. In 1970
his career path changed and he began working in the Sales Department. His most
recent position was Director of Global Customer Service for the Sandvik Smith
Group. He continued to work as a consultant to Sandvik Smith for approximately
two years after his official retirement. Ron was a dedicated employee and always
the team player.
Ron always had a friendly, positive attitude and loved practical jokes and was
in on more than his share. If anyone needed help, he was there to help you if he
possibly could and always gave much needed moral support. When times were tough,
he always tried to encourage you. He will truly be missed.
He was a former member of the Marland Roundup Club and along with his wife,
participated in many trail rides. His other enjoyments included fishing,
traveling, gambling and outdoor cooking.
He is survived by two sons, Ron Fossen Jr. and Eric Fossen, both of Las Vegas,
Nevada; one brother, Bob Fossen; one sister-in-law, Hazel Fossen of New Mexico;
one step-son, Richard Cmeyla of Ponca City. He was preceded in death by his
parents; his wife, Mary, one son, Steven and one brother, Bill.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 18, 2008 at Grace Memorial
Chapel. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery.
