Helen Marie Coon, longtime resident of Ponca City, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, June 6, 2009 in Oklahoma City. She was 72.

Helen was born February 4, 1937 in the family home at Hill City, Kansas. She was born to Alva E. Ambrosier and Doris Marie Hendershot Ambrosier. She received her early education in the Hill City Schools. Helen was married to Theldous H. Sonny Coon Jr. on November 27, 1980 in Ponca City. Helen was a longtime assistant manager of several restaurants in the Ponca City and Tonkawa communities. She owned and operated Grannys Kitchen on North 14th Street in the early 1980s. Helen was a longtime member of the Free Will Baptist Church of Ponca City. Her enjoyments included her love for cooking, especially for her family; taking care of her family; and in earlier years traveling and camping.

She is survived by her five children, Joyce Thomas and husband, Danny, Duncan, Oklahoma, Bobby Wood and wife, Alice, Stroud, Oklahoma, Helen Earileen Tinney and husband, Jim, Duncan, Oklahoma, Vicki Horton and husband, Arnie, Pomona, Kansas, and Ronald Wood and wife, Rose, Ponca City; one daughter-in-law, Pat Wood of Georgia; three brothers, Eldon Ambrosier, Norton, Kansas, Darrell Ambrosier, Almena, Kansas, and Gerald Ambrosier, Hill City, Kansas; one sister, Pauline Cole, Bullhead City, Arizona; 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; many other extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sonny Coon in 2000; her son, Dean Wood in 1976; three brothers, Dennis, Bobby and Gene Ambrosier.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at the Free Will Baptist Church, 1900 East Hubbard Road, with Rev. David Bigger presiding. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be grandsons, Ian Avey, Tony Wood, Casey Price, Brandon Horton, Timmy Horton, Joe Wood and Rodney Thomas.

Memorial contributions may be made in Helens name to the American Lung Association, 11212 North May Ave., Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73120.
